Well some of you may remember the News Article I did back about a month ago, NHTSA is looking at the GL-1800 Gold Wing.
This is the follow up that I just finished reading and I would like to pass some of the information on to you all. The American Honda Motor Company Inc. has released a Service Bulletin GL 1800 #14 announcing the procedures for a safety recall of some 2002-2003 GL 1800/A Gold Wings. Affected units may have lower cross member frame welds that do not meet original manufacturing specifications.
The Affected Units:
2002 GL 1800 Both ABS and NON-ABS Units
2003 GL 1800 Both ABS and NON-ABS Units,
ALSO a note: Trikes and vehicles with Sidecars attached are excluded from this safety recall.
The Serial Numbers have been released and notifications heve been sent out to the orginal owners, if you are now an owner and may not know of this recall, or the second owner of a Gold Wing in question, and may not be sure if your bike is included in the recall. You can stop by any authorized Honda motorcycle dealership and they will be more that glad to help you. The dealers have received repair kits and instructions.
I will have to say that Honda has moved very quickly to resolve this problem as it was a major concern to all, as well as to Honda. Once again I see a sound reason behind the purchase of another Honda motorcycle, they have handled this operation First Class, seeing the problem, announcing the problem and repairing of the problem. To satisfying the customer in a very professional and timely manner.
