Now that most of us had to put up our scoots for the winter and riding season is over, so what are we doing, instead of riding? Well for most of us we will just leave our scoots park and covered up, and will wait until the weather starts to warm up, for others when the snow starts to melt away. Then we will get busy getting them out from under the covers, wash and polish time. Then start to change the oils and filters check the brakes and lube up the chain. Yea we know we should finished all of that before putting them in hibernation, but we just wanted to get that last ride before it was too late. But now that it’s just after the holidays and the New Year is here, we have excepted that it’s really winter and one cant get out into the garage and work on their pride and joy as it has gone into a deep sleep, staying nice and warm from the covers that we put on them.
Well some of us are very lucky and have a walk out basement or a heated garage, or a full out shop with a lift and all of the goodies. Some will begin using this time of the year to start the full cleaning process on their scoots. While others will start turning the wrenches and installing the goodies that Santa put under the tree. Then others will just go all out and pull down there scoots because they sure didn’t want to pull them down during riding season to put in that clutch, or new coils and a complete tune up. Noticed I didn’t say new tires, as I hope everyone changes them when there need, and not waiting untill the chords are showing.
Then there are a few like me, that start to putt around, getting there back side in gear, and start the work process that has to be done before the riding season is here. Well I went to grease the swing arm and I noticed that the fitting was missing, OK it had of fallen out, as it was new last year when I installed the new swing arm. Boy I hated to find out that it was busted off and I don’t know how that happened, so now it’s time to pull out all of the stops. As I will have to pull that swing arm back out to replace the fitting, as I convince myself it has to be done and a good excuse to inspect the swing arm project that was put in last year. So I had no choice and pulled the back end out again, and inspected all of the items and looking at the needle bearings showed that all was perfect. So back together it all goes, but wait I think I will get one coat of polish before everything is back up and in place.
Now it's time to get down to business and tilt the engine, get them carburetors pulled, or start to pull the clutch down, I know we have to do something it just cant sit there and not get worked on. That isn’t why we have winter is it? Just to sit in the house and think about riding or go out and sit on our scoots waiting for riding season. Now come on we really have to turn the wrenches don’t we. There has to be something on our pride and joy that has to be tweaked with, I know that I can’t go to the dealer it always cost me just to walk in the door there. I will need an excuse to go there, so why not for something that the bike needs. Then when you get back home you know that it will have to be put on. So it’s time to get the wrenches back out.
Now it’s your story to tell, what’s happening this winter with you and your scoot. Drop us a line and tell us what it is you are doing, to your scoot, this winter. If you need some help in getting the story together just give a yell that is why we are here, to help out. Hey I know that there are more that just a couple of us working on our scoots this winter, so let’s here from you.
